Brazil Info

In celebration of the World Cup Soccer, kicking off this weekend, we are featuring Brazil as your holiday of choice.

What’s the rundown on the weather? Best “ off-peak” time is May to Sep. This is when the prices are lower than usual but not bad weather wise. Min / Max 19-28 degrees C – can experience some rain. Rainfall highest between Oct – Jan. Very hot from Dec to Mar.
How to get there and how is the Jetlag? Not too bad – only 4 hours behind Namibia. Flights are available via Johannesburg and Sao Paolo. Flight time about 12 hours from Johannesburg.
What’s the shopping like? Affordable Brazilian Handcrafts, Silver Jewellery and Brazilian fashion.
So what currency in King in Brazil? Local Currency is the Brazilian Real ( 1BRL = N$4.7) but you will have to exchange your precious Nam Dollar to USD or EUR before you leave Namibia.
So I have a valid Passport – what other papers do I need? One of a few places a Namibian does not need a visa but you will have to get a Yellow Fever Inoculation before you go!
What’s there to see and do? Other than the famous Copacabana Beach and one the 7 wonders of the world, Statue of Christ on Corcovado Mountain and Sugar Loaf Mountain, Brazil has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. The 8000 acre rainforest, Tijuca National Park, is home to 30 waterfalls, hundreds of plants and trees and at least 100 different species of animals. And then don’t forget the Iguassu Falls – so massive they straddle two countries and so intriguing, you will need two days to fully appreciate them and don’t forget to visit the immense wetland area, half the size of France, famed for the wildlife and nesting areas of the Macaw. Last but not least, The Amazon Jungle covers 7 000 000 square kms, with over 60% in Brazil. Truly one of the most diverse countries to visit.
